Two youths
have been arrested by men of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence
Corps (NSCDC) for vandalising N6 million worth of armoured electricity
cables at Life Camp area of Abuja.
Parading the suspects yesterday, the NSCDC Commandant, FCT Division, Mr Patrick Ukpan, said
Innocent Joseph and Mansur Shehu were caught vandalising a transformer on Sunday night. He said the community members arrested them and handed them over to his men.
“What we have gathered from them will now make us to be on the trail of two other suspects that are at large. But I assure you that we will apprehend them in the shortest possible time. My advice to those who patronise vandalised products is to desist from such act. We are going after them; our men are everywhere to ensure that vandalism of critical infrastructure is stopped,” Ukpan said.
Spokesman for the AEDC, Mr. Ahmed Shekarau who noted that cable is vital for electricity supply said, “These armoured cables that have been vandalised are the arteries that step down electricity to our customers from the transformer. To reconnect and fix these cables that have been vandalised, we need an average of N6 million.
