The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency on
Wednesday arraigned a 35-year-old woman, Dorothy
Ifeyinwa, in a Federal High Court in Lagos over trafficking
1.72kg of cocaine.
Ifeyinwa, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
Following an application for bail moved by her counsel,
Ifeanyi Okenyi, the trial judge, Justice Oluremi
Oguntoyinbo, admitted the accused to bail in the sum of
N million with two sureties in like sum.
The judge said one of the sureties must be an officer not
below Grade Level 15 in the civil service and must
depose to an affidavit of means.
Oguntoyinbo added that the sureties must be resident
within the court’s jurisdiction.
In the charge, the prosecutor, Abu Ibrahim, alleged that
the accused committed the offence on April 11 at the
Murtala Mohammed International Airport, Ikeja, Lagos.
Ibrahim said during the outward clearance of an Emirate
Airline flight from Dubai, 1.72 kg of cocaine was
discovered in the possession of the accused person.
The prosecutor said the accused was consequently
arrested and handed to the NDLEA for prosecution.
Ibrahim said the offence of drug trafficking contravened
the provisions of Section 11 (b) of the NDLEA Act, Cap
N30 Laws of the Federation, 2004.
