Former Nigeria striker, Yakubu
Aiyegbeni, will make a shock return to English football when he lineup
for national league side Boreham Wood in a friendly against Reading FC.
The 33 years old, who spent a decade
plying his trade in England, was announced as part of the Boreham Wood
squad on the club’s Twitter account.
Yakubu made 57 international appearances
for Nigeria, scoring 21 goals. He signed for Portsmouth in 2005 and
played for several clubs in England before his release by Reading in May
2015.
Last season, he played 12 times, without scoring, for Turkish Super Lig side Kayserispo.
Jaap Stam, a former Champions League
winner with Manchester United, will lead Boreham Wood in their new
campaign, this season with a home fixture against Forest Green Rovers on
August 6.
Stam, a former defender, won three
Premier League title with the Red Devils. He will be expected to
challenge for promotion into the Premier League in what is his first
managerial post.
