Wow!!! Nigerian Student Ufot Ekong Breaks 50 Year Record In Japan

A Nigerian student has achieved the highest grades at a Japanese university for the past 50 years, while solving a mathematical equation which was unsolvable 30 years ago, in his first semester.

Ufot Ekong achieved a first in electrical engineering at Tokai University in Tokyo, scoring the best marks since 1965, CCTV Africa reported.

Ekong, from Lagos, also plays the saxophone and runs a retail wears and accessories shop in Japan called Strictly African Japan.

The Nigerian speaks English, French, Japanese and Yoruba, his country’s native language, and paid his way through university himself.

He currently works for Nissan and has already patented two products, as well as making an electric car which reaches up to 128 kmph.

Train Kills Female NYSC Member In Lagos Due To Earphone Distraction

Debbie, a female member of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), has been killed following a distraction caused by an earphone. The deceased who was crushed by a train later gave up the ghost while receiving treatment at a hospital.

The incident occurred on Thursday, March 8, 2018, while the victim was walking on a railway in Ikeja, Lagos.

Sounds of warning offered by observers had failed to alert Debbie who seemed fully engrossed in her operation of a mobile phone.

"We lost the corps member just now. I heard the neurosurgeon and the orthopaedic doctors said they would conduct further investigations on her. But regrettably we lost her," announces Prince Mohammed Momoh, who is the state coordinator of the NYSC.

It was gathered that the deceased was most likely listening to loud music which prevented her from observing an approaching train.

Huge Bruno Mars Debate Emerges On Twitter Over Cultural Appropriation

Is Bruno Mars a cultural appropriator or an appreciator of black music?

That's the debate posed by The Grapevine's video panel that's sparked a heated Twitter debate on Friday causing the pop star to become a trending topic.

Over the two-part discussion, which lasted over 50 minutes, the speakers broke down their sides of the argument. Some panelist argued that Mars countlessly honors the black artists who paved the way for him and often hires black dancers and musicians to back him up. But others have countered that the Hawaii-born artist copies black music and profits off of his racial ambiguity in a way that other black artists are not able to do.

"What Bruno Mars does, is he takes pre-existing work and he just completely, word-for-word recreates it, extrapolates it," said YouTuber Sensei Aishitemasu. "He does not create it, he does not improve upon it, he does not make it better. He’s a karaoke singer, he’s a wedding singer, he’s the person you hire to do Michael Jackson and Prince covers. Yet Bruno Mars has an Album of the Year Grammy and Prince never won an Album of the Year Grammy."

This is far from the first time that Mars was the target of cultural appropriation claims. But as many have pointed out, he always makes sure to name the artists who inspired him.

"When you say 'black music,' understand that you are talking about rock, jazz, R&B, reggae, funk, doo-wop, hip-hop, and Motown," he said in a 2017 interview with Latina . "Black people created it all. Being Puerto Rican, even salsa music stems back to the Motherland. So, in my world, black music means everything."

Wahala!: Federal Government Bans Facebook, Instagram And WhatsApp! Says...

The use of all social media networks, including Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp, has been banned by the Sri Lankan Government in order to quell violence throughout country. 

A 10-day nationwide state of emergency was declared in Sri Lanka on Tuesday amid increased violence between Muslim and Buddhist communities.

Sri Lanka’s Telecommunications Regulatory Commission, which had reportedly been monitoring social media for hate speech related to the violence, has temporarily blocked Facebook, Viber, WhatsApp, and Instagram in most parts of the country.

On Wednesday, Cabinet Spokesman Rajitha Senaratne said the government had asked internet service providers to block messaging apps after it was Facebook posts encouraging violence towards the country's Muslim population were discovered.

Mano Ganesan, Minister of National Coexistence Dialogue and Official Languages, also confirmed the government's social media ban on Twitter, saying the country had decided to curb "all communal hate speech posts via social media."

Senaratne said in a press conference Wednesday that officials have been investigating who is fueling calls for riots and that several parliamentary officials had been mentioned.

Shift Let Me Faint! Canadian Doctors Protest They Are Being Paid Too Much

Unbelievable! I mean who does that! 

So people can still think like this in our world today. It is unthinkable that any profession in Nigeria will protest and scream "our salary is too much"! But it happened in Canada!  

More than 500 Canadian doctors and residents, as well as over 150 medical students, have signed a public letter protesting their own pay raises. 

The letter says "We, Quebec doctors who believe in a strong public system, oppose the recent salary increases negotiated by our medical federations," 

The group say they are offended that they would receive raises when nurses and patients are struggling.

"These increases are all the more shocking because our nurses, clerks and other professionals face very difficult working conditions, while our patients live with the lack of access to required services because of the drastic cuts in recent years and the centralization of power in the Ministry of Health," reads the letter.

"The only thing that seems to be immune to the cuts is our remuneration," the letter says.

JAMB: Snake Didn't Swallow N38M, See Who Did!

Philomina Chieshe, the official of the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB), who some weeks ago claimed that the board’s N36 million was swallowed by a snake, has made a U-turn.

Chieshe, who works as a clerk at the JAMB office in Markurdi, Benue state, initially told top officials of the examination body that a “mysterious snake” swallowed the money gotten from the sale of JAMB scratch cards.

However, when she appeared before the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), she confessed that the money was collected by one Samuel Umoru, her superior.

A fact sheet released by the Antigraft agency indicated that Chieshe was first quizzed on February 16th 2017 and she made additional statements on April 7 and 13 2017, May 30, 2017 and June 28, 2017.

Philomina Chieshe, the lady in the eye of the Naira eating snake storm in JAMB, has been singing before the EFCC. And, contrary to her claim before the leadership of the examination body that the N36 million proceed from sale of scratch cards were eaten up by a snake, Chieshe told operatives of the anti- graft agency that the money was collected piecemeal from her by her coordinator, Mr. Samuel Sale Umoru.

In one of the statements she volunteered to the EFCC, Chieshe, who is a clerk in the Makurdi office of JAMB, revealed that the Coordinator usually asked her to withdraw proceeds of the sale of the Scratch Cards from her account in two new generation banks. This money I withdrew, the coordinator used it for the office and some time for himself.

She claimed that she had been warning Umoru that it was improper to use the money for miscellaneous expenses in the office or for private purposes but he would not listen. She also claimed that Umoru was in the habit of drawing IOU from the proceeds of the sale of the cards without reimbursing her.

Some of the withdrawals which she claimed were at the behest of the coordinator included the N340,000 withdrawn on May 5 and 26, 2014 with ATM card. She also disclosed that she used her ATM card to withdraw N120,000 for the coordinator between June 17 and 18, 2014. “He instructed me to withdraw N640,000, using my card between June 30, 2014 and July 7, 201.”

An EFCC official who spoke to The Nation, said “The investigating team had verified the withdrawals after a careful analysis of the statements of account of the suspect. Mr. Umoru had also been arrested and questioned about claims by Chieshe.

Umoru did not deny the allegations. He was however released on administrative bail but had been reporting monthly to the anti- graft agency. The interesting aspect of the disclosure is that Chieshe’s statement was obtained long before the snake and Naira swallowing testimony became public knowledge.

In all her statements before the EFCC, there was no mention of any episode of any snake and the disappearance of monies in her care. In a fact-sheet regarding the investigations, Chieshe was quoted to have said her superior — the coordinator at the Markurdi office — had asked her to withdraw the N36 million.”

The suspect told the antigraft agency that she had been warning Umoru “that it was improper to use the money for miscellaneous expenses in the office or for private purposes but he would not listen.”

Other JAMB officials being investigated include Tanko Labaran who could not account for N23 million from sale of scratch cards at the Nasarawa office, and Yakubu Jakada who is yet to explain the whereabouts of N20 million e-facilities cards sold in Kano office.

All the suspects have been released on bail pending the outcome of the antigraft agency’s investigations.

DELSU Mass Communication Students Wade In On The Media And Human Trafficking

Students of Mass Communication Department, Delta State University, Abraka has reacted on Facebook to the investigative clip on Human Trafficking in Nigeria conducted by Cable News Network, CNN.

Salome Zino, a 300 Level Student of the Department was the first to react to the clip. In her post on Facebook, she lamented the prevalent rate of Human Trafficking in Nigeria while also advising Youths in Nigeria to take abstaining measures on the trend.  She said:

Breaking my self-imposed silence on this e-space.. I just have to comment on this.. So nobody saw the clip of the CNN journalist going undercover in Edo state (The Hub of human trafficking in Nigeria)??.. No comments Abi.. No hashtags.. Nothing.. I bet majority of us didnt even care to watch it.. No.. We are busy talking about who had sex in the toilet and how to train money - swallowing pets (really??) A few silly Nigerians implied that the whole thing was a setup.. Blah blah blah... We Think everything is like Nigerian film.. This is real this is huge

Replying the post,  Egerue Ken Onyeka also a 300 Level student, added that the psychological make up of the youths in Nigeria has made it less possible for them to speak against the evil trend. He said:

Nigeria problems makes me bleed floodly in heart..... Most of we the youth have come in terms that the unexplainable happenings in this Shithole has been filmed somewhere else in many distance years ago, the recorded film is being played to us today.  In his own response, Ojieh Chukwuneku Thomas, a Final Year Student of the Department, expressed disappointment at the Nigerian Media for deviating from their role as agents of moral and social change in the society. He said:

It's not shocking to hear about how vast Human Trafficking & the hunger for foreign terrain has grown in Nigeria. I mean the Nation is currently in dire straits. But my Major concern is CNN?!!! Really??! I humbly applaud the efforts of the "oversea" organization for a job well done, for their tenacity in unearthing this abysmal trend currently playing out most especially in the southern part of Nigeria! But it begs the question. Where are our Media organizations in Nigeria? Have they all gone quiet & cold (It's not even the wet season already ).

It beclouds my thoughts & beats my imagination that all our media organisations in Nigeria does is promote obscene reality shows and events (Not all media houses though, but a large proportion of them). Whatever happened to Investigative Journalism in Nigeria? You made mention of the fact that everyone's attention as of late has been on "Money Swallowing Animals"! I mean who wouldn't talk about it? It is actually strange and laughable! But the vital question as a communicator is, what step has the media organisations in Nigeria taken to unearth these social disasters in Nigeria? Sincerely speaking the Nigerian Media should hold their faces in absolute shame.

Human Trafficking and the incredulous, sanguine hunger for money among our Youths has been a major plague that has eaten deep into the social fabric of our dear Nation. There is seriously no doubt that the desperation is real and high. Manchester United Stage Dramatic Comeback Win To Reclaim Second Spot

Manchester United in a dramatic fashion came from a two goal deficit to beat Crystal Palace 2-3 at Selhurst Park.

The Match began with Crystal Palace dominating proceedings with Manchester Uncompound able to find the right balance. To compond the Red Devils woes, The Eagles took the lead in the 11th mins through Andros Townsend shot deflecting off Lindelof. The First half ended 1-0

JAMB to commence printing of UTME notification slip on Tuesday, March 6

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has directed candidates for the 2018 UTME to start printing their examination notification slip from Tuesday, March 6

The board’s Head of Media and Information Department, Dr Fabian Benjamin, said in Lagos on Sunday that arrangements had been concluded for the successful conduct of the exam scheduled to hold from March 9 to March 17.

“With have successfully conducted the Mock Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) on Monday, February 26, and based on that, we can confidently say, we are good to go.

“The mock UTME was to expose the candidates to the process as well as test the level of preparedness of the various centres.

“Candidates can now go ahead and print their examination notification slips from Tuesday.

“These candidates must ensure that these slips are printed before Friday, March 9 in order to farmiliarise themselves with the examination schedules as no form of excuse for missing the examination will be entertained.

“We want to warn that the board will not reschedule any examination for anybody and so any candidate that fails to adhere strictly to the examination schedule as stated in their slips should have himself or herself to blame,” he said.


Benjamin, however, warned candidates not to go to their respective centres with prohibited items such as telephones, wristwatches, pens, and other devices.
